Campuses are good solar hosts for practical reasons: the roofs are large, low-rise and structurally simple, and term breaks provide a construction window that a factory or a hospital cannot offer. The array’s monitoring portal also has a second life on a campus, where generation data feeds engineering and science teaching in a way it does not on an industrial roof.

Education sites are part of why the “Solar for every Juan” framing is not marketing for us. A provincial university is not the customer a developer chasing megawatt league tables calls first, and it is exactly the kind of building whose electricity bill constrains what else it can do.
